INTRODUCTION

INFOCOM, an initiative from the house of ABP was started in 2002 as a forum that would demonstrate India’s quest to be the IT superpower. INFOCOM is now one of the largest congregations of technology professionals, buyers-sellers, corporate leaders, academics, visionaries, and policymakers in India.

Over the last 16 editions of the event, INFOCOM has evolved to be an important platform that focuses on the convergence of Business, Technology and Leadership elements that are essential for driving India to the next phase of growth.

INFOCOM, the annual flagship event in Calcutta comprises a 3-day Conference and brings together the best global minds in Technology, Business Strategy and Leadership. THEME: WHEN DIGITAL BECOMES HUMAN

As Technology keeps playing an increasingly important role in our lives, it has almost become a kind of a second language to us, or perhaps sometimes even the first. The advancements in technology development are not likely to slow down in the years to come and it would be most absurd to think that we have reached the end of the technological road and that Facebook or Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat are the pinnacle of digital development. Technology is a Vector and we are only just beginning! And we will help to develop it further and further.

We may be in the age of the ‘sub-human intelligence’ which means that technology is still slightly less intellectual than us. But this will soon change. Machines are getting smarter every day and before long you will see that machines will no longer be defined by processing speed or memory size. Instead, before we know it, we will all be living and working with machines that have ‘1 x human intelligence’ or even ‘2 x human intelligence’.

With rapid digitalization relationships between consumers and companies will be impacted deeply. The customer relationship will be digitally driven from start to finish. The difference between online and offline will quickly disappear. Consumers now live in a world of self-service, automation, smart data use and proactive customer service. The process of digitalization is already moving quickly and the battle to keep ahead in the customer relationship game is a hard one. Therefore in the relatively near future the digital customer relationship will become a commodity. Whoever fails to make the transition to digital will simply not be able to survive. The digital transformation will also force companies to transform their human relations as well. Will self-service, automation and robots come to dominate the customer relations of the future? People can still do something that machines cannot – they can inject emotion into the customer relationship. A computer or a machine cannot yet be creative, empathic or passionate. But people can.

Nevertheless, the moment is fast approaching when the digital world will come to dominate our lives. This will make human interactions to become rarer. But when this happens, the human touch will actually increase in importance, because of its ability to offer significant added value within the impersonal digital landscape. When digital does become human, we are going to need it more than ever. The future is both, digital and human!

Thus keeping the current trend in mind we have chosen the theme- ‘When Digital becomes Human', for the 17th edition of INFOCOM.

INFOCOM 2018 will witness deliberations and debates from leaders with respect to real time cases of digital transformation and how this is affecting customer experiences. The conference is designed to elaborate on key issues of handling digital transformation in businesses, explore new opportunities that lie ahead, develop efficient and better products and services in the digital age and build on a growth path in a thriving competitive environment. Come join us at the INFOCOM 2018 initiatives and explore the dynamics of digital becoming human which can help us build better and robust businesses across India and beyond.
