| NICT 2008 - Vote of Thanks |
|
Distinguished Guests, Ladies & Gentlemen,
As NICT 2008, the fourth edition of the event comes to a close, I have the very pleasant task of proposing the Vote of Thanks to all those who have made this event such a grand success.
The success of INFOCOM the largest ICT exposition in the country inspired us to venture out into a new destination, the Northeast! When we started out, in 2005, planning for the first edition of NICT, our capital was, more than anything, the dream we had in our hearts.
The venture was a fruitful one because it led us to you! NICT 2005 was the first ICT exposition in the Northeast and today, NICT 2008 is the biggest Information and Communication Technology Conference in the Northeast.
They say, you don't gain if you don't venture. And I am delighted to say that venture we did and gained we have. In range, scale, magnitude and participation, NICT over the years has gone way beyond that initial dream.
This year, NICT 2008 was inaugurated by His Excellency, The Governor of Assam, Mr. S.C. Mathur and this morning there was a valedictory session with Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar, the Hon'ble Union Minister for DONER. The two day conference has been packed full with hundreds of IT enthusiasts. Every session brought together some of the best and brightest speakers who entered into dialogues with a responsive audience. Users, providers, industry leaders, executives, policy-makers, techies and academics took stock, shared feedback, brainstormed and inspired ideas.
Ladies & gentlemen, I believe, we stand at the threshold of a new age where we are all touched with the ability to change and make the future . Because, NICT is not just an event or a gathering of like-minded people. It is much more. It is a flame - Northeast's very own - that has the power to influence the matrix of ICT policy at the highest levels of decision-making in the country. It can be looked upon as the much-needed platform in the most happening business sector that the region lacked so long. And it has also the potential to become the voice for the collective aspirations of the people of the region - designing and contributing to the greatest good of the greatest number.
To begin with, we extend our warmest thanks to His Excellency, The Governor of Assam, Mr. S.C. Mathur for taking time off from his busy schedule to inaugurate and take part in NICT 2008.
I thank the Hon'ble IT Minister of Assam, Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Hon'ble Union Minister for DONER, Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar for gracing the event and for engaging the audience with their in-depth deliberations. I also thank The Govt. of Assam and Amtron for being the Partner State for the event apart from the Govt. of Meghalaya - through Meghalaya Information Society and the North Eastern Council who have supported our endeavour.

To conclude, our warmest thanks go to the administrative machinery of the Northeast. The Telegraph is with them every step of the way, as much as they are with us, partnering the region in its noble pursuits of making the region a dynamic ICT destination.
As all good things must come to an end, so does NICT 2008. To conclude, let me once again point out that without you all we will never have the guts to dream and strive to reach those. So thank you all.
We shall now draw the curtains on the conference with the National anthem.
