Inclusion

The Indian ICT industry has witnessed an impressive growth in the past two decades. A vibrant talent pool, cost efficiency and the innovative delivery model have contributed in putting India in the forefront among global players.

However, till about recently, economic growth and development focused on aspects revolving around urban development. Modern day and age has brought to the forefront the realization that "India lives in its villages". With more that 70% of the Indian population living in rural areas, it is imperative that growth has to be inclusive in order to launch India to the next orbit.

Information and Communication Technology is the key driver for inclusive growth. With the government being proactive and encouraging public and private sectors to individually and collaboratively work towards the creation of infrastructure in modern India, various avenues have opened up in this process. With basic communication and connectivity being provided and this process creating a vast arena of opportunities, inclusive growth will be the next step towards making India a global super power in the years to come.

Rapid growth in the rural economy, well planned and targeted urban growth, infrastructure development, reforms in education, ensuring future energy needs, a healthy public-private partnership, affordable technology solutions, making all sections of society equal stakeholders in growth, expansion of inclusive finance on a massive scale and above all good governance are various areas through which India can launch into the next stage of exponential growth.

It is therefore imperative that the Government, Industry, ICT fraternity, Institutes, Investors and other stakeholders need to come together to create an ecosystem which will foster a culture of Inclusion, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in India for enabling global competitiveness and making equitable growth a reality across all sectors of the economy.

The concept of INFOCOM has been premised on the role of India’s ICT industry as a driver of higher economic growth. INFOCOM 2011 being the 10th edition of event, “Inclusion” has been most aptly chosen as the theme for this year.
